Rahma is a Managing Partner at Awal Consulting Limited. She is an Islamic Finance lawyer, consultant and trainer who brings in a wealth of experience working in the Islamic industry. Rahma has worked in Kenya, G.C.C and the U.S.A. Rahma was instrumental in drafting the Islamic Banking Rules for the Central Bank of Oman in the Sultanate of Oman in the areas of Sharia Governance, Power of Supervision and Control, General Obligations and the Miscellaneous Manuals. Rahma has also drafted policy and procedure manuals for Islamic banks both in Africa and the Middle East. Rahma, has advised Non- Governmental Organizations such as Oxfam GB, Mercy Corps Ethiopia and Aldef Kenya to name a few in the areas of Islamic Microfinance. Rahma has presented at both local, regional and International conferences, in Nairobi, Uganda and Finland in the field of Islamic Finance. In March 2014, Rahma completed the first comprehensive write up on Islamic finance and it’s growth in Kenya and was published by the John Wiley Islamic Finance Series, chapter titled “ The Islamic Finance Handbook: A Practioners Guide To The Global Markets”. Rahma has an LL.B Honors in Shariah and Law from the International Islamic University Islamabad Pakistan and an LL.M in International Comparative Law from the Robert McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis USA and a Diploma in Arabic Language from the International University of Africa Khartoum Sudan. Rahma is multi-lingual and speaks fluent, Arabic, English, Somali and Swahili.
Fiona (Farha) Kirubi is a managing partner at Awal Consulting and an International finance practitioner who found Islam in 2011. She has vast experience of advising in wealth management for high net worth clients in the GCC, Europe and Africa as well as experience in advising in asset management, insurance, strategic planning, business development and marketing. Fiona has led and organized tailored training for Islamic banking in Kenya for banks as well as organized international training’s in Malaysia. Fiona brings her versatile experience and empathy to offer clients a broad and global outlook in their business decisions. She has a global academic background having studied at Harvard Business School, Richmond, The American International University in London and the American University in Dubai and INCEIF where she graduated with a masters in Islamic Finance. Fiona continues to study and is currently pursuing Arabic studies. As a serial entrepreneur she has started several companies and recently made it to the Women in FinTech Powerlist 2017. She currently sits on the board of 2 charity foundations in Kenya and is the chairperson for Muslim Women Tech, an NGO based in Malaysia.
Sh. Badru is a prominent Islamic Finance Shariah scholar in East Africa. He is the first Certified Shariah Auditor and Advisor licensed by Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions in Kenya. He currently sits on the Shariah board of three Islamic financial institutions including the first Islamic Bank opened in Kenya back in 2008. He advises on various aspects of Shariah Compliance, Shariah Audit and product development. Sh. Badru brings a wealth of both local and international experience from the Islamic finance industry. An often sought out speaker and Shariah expert, he has advised both governmental and non-governmental organizations on Shariah compliance in various projects in Kenya such as the Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development as well as Islamic Relief – UK. Shaikh Badru has a Masters in Islamic Banking and Management from the Marksfield Higher Education Institute, validated by the University of Gloucestshire, U.K and a B.A in the Hadeeth Sciences from Madina University Kingdom of Saudia Arabia.
